What is the NC856? Fairy tale castles, deserted beaches and amazing roads... An extended version of the North Coast 500 route which take in far more of what Scotland has to offer. The North Coast 856 shows you more of the East coast than is on the normal route along with locations like Glencoe which are not a part of the NC500 route. Not to mention the incredible off the beaten track accommodation which give this route it's luxury appeal. The drives are short and manageable leaving ample time to enjoy the stops and make the most of the incredible hotels!
What is the route? Well planned out, tried and tested! DAY 1: Starting at Scone Palace we travel anti-clockwise up the old Military Road which is one of the best driving roads in the UK. We spend the first night at the Banff Springs hotel. The roads up on that part of the East coast are not a part of the NC500 and are quite spectacular. DAY 2: We take a leisurly drive along the coast to the incredible Tain Castle where we will arive with plenty time to enjoy all that this amazing place has to offer before sitting down to a feast for dinner. DAY 7: After driving through the spectacular mountains of Glencoe we continue the short drive to Fonab Castle which is a unique 5 star castle hotel where we will end the trip on a high. The evening will start with an exclusive private dinner followed by drinks at the bar! DAY 3: After stopping at John O' Groats which is the most northerly point on in Scotland. Our third night is spent in Thurso, situated in the historical area of Caithness, it is the northernmost town on the British mainland. DAY 6: Continuing the route down the West coast we take the coastal route of the Applecross peninsula until we reach the small town of Applecross. Then continuing over the famous Bealach na Bà, the steepest road in the UK, we make our way towards the eerie Glencoe where we will stay the night in a luxurious castle like hotel! DAY 5: We continue down the breathtaking West Coast until we reach the beautiful town of Gairloch where we will stay the night and dine at the famous Old Gairloch Inn which is bursting with character! DAY 4: We start the incredible scenic drive along the North coast and West coast of Scotland stopping regularly to appreciate the views along the way. We stop at the stunning Durness beach and the spooky Smoo Cave along the way before reaching our stunning hotel for the night in Ullapool.
How much is it? From as little as £849 each! The price is £849 per person based on a team of two sharing a room. Here's a list of everything that's included in the entry fee. The stickers are posted to you in advance along with the flags and wristbands and the route download is emailed to you a few days before we leave. 7 Nights In Hotels (2 of them in castles)

Do I need a £1000 car to sign up? No, you don't... We like £1000 cars, but any car can go, a classic or even a super car! You'll need a Garmin GPS with trip planner. Click here to find see our list of compatible Garmins. The route is sent to you via email a few days before we leave along with a guide on how to install the route.
What isn't included? Whilst we include a lot, there are a few things that aren't included. We don't include dinners or lunches, they are payable at each restaurant we visit, fuel, breakdown cover, support vehicles, a GPS, route maps or someone to hold your hand!
