Key Info

What's it all about?
It’s the road trip adventure of a lifetime on a meticulously organised event with a group of likeminded adventurers driving our £1000 or classic cars from Edinburgh to the Coliseum in Rome!
Might sound easy, but it’s not...You’ll be driving some of the highest mountain passes in France, facing endless hairpin bends and driving through some of Europe’s most stunning capital cities. After nine days camping at some stunning campsites, you’ll be rewarded with the sight of the Coliseum. Then to top it all off there’s an incredible party and two nights to rest at the luxury hotel at the end where we will celebrate victory with new friends for life!

What car can I take?
You have two choices here, budget or classic.
You can take a car that costs no more than £1000 or a car of any value that is 20 year or older. If you go for the £1000 car the budget does not include tax, mot, or any safety related repairs required on your car.

What's The route?
Starting at the stunning South Queensferry the route takes us down to Dover crossing over to France where we will stop in at Paris before heading down to the incredible Alps for several days.
A quick stop at Monaco before crossing into Italy over another mountain pass. From there we have a couple of days down to Rome. It takes nine days of camping to reach Rome then we stay in the luxury hotel at the end for two nights. On the twelfth day all the teams start their return journey. There are many exiting stops along the route, most of which are kept under wraps until the morning briefing. These stops can be anything from museum visits, an overnight castle stop and even dinner on a sunset boat cruise, but you’ll have to wait until the morning briefing to find out what’s in store for that day!

Where do we stay?
After years of running this route, we’ve achieved the ultimate balance of great driving roads and excellent campsites.
Each campsite has great toilet facilities, with many featuring a bar and restaurant and some even offering night time entertainment. You’ll enjoy 9 nights camping followed by 2 luxurious nights lovely hotel just outside of Rome.

Other Costs

Remember the budget is £1000 no more unless your going for a classic car in which case it’s exempt from the budget but must be 20 years or older If you go for the £1000 car the budget does not include tax, mot, or any safety related repairs required on your car.

If you take a small diesel engined car expect to pay around £650 however an average 2.0 petrol will use around £1000. A 3.0 or 4.0 and above will be up above £1200. Bear in mind most people will split the cost of fuel with their team mate. This is the average cost of a round trip.

This varies a lot depending on your route home but is the approximate cost for tolls to Rome
and back again.

If booked in advance you can get a return ferry from Calais to Dover for as little as £90. Arrive on the day and you'll pay £150. There are also overnight ferries to Hull, Harwich and Newcastle which save a lot of fuel and drive time though are more expensive.

You'll need a Garmin with the trip planner feature which most of them seem to have as
standard.
You can find cheap second hand models on eBay or refurbished units online. It's essential to follow the Rust 2 Rome route and it's what really makes the route a pleasure to follow, not to mention keeps you on the same roads as all your fellow teammates so they will find you if you breakdown. The Garmin is also extremely stable when dealing with the
intense heat on Rust 2 Rome trips, unlike most modern smart phones which tend to shut down due to overheating.
